Dr. Akuba is a Terran engineer working for Accra Intelligent Systems Laboratories, one of the leading manufacturers of sentient Androids. Gentle and accommodating, Dr. Akuba has a warm presence about her, able to put nervous people at ease with a soft word and an open ear. She makes a point of avoiding punitive language; if someone makes a mistake, she prefers to work with them to find a way to move forward from where they are, rather than worry about undoing something that can't be reversed. She does like to keep moving forward, though, and her methods have brought a lot of great work out of her team. She has a love for cultivating bonsai trees, and the fruits of her greenthumb greet anyone who visit her office.

A senior engineer at Accra Labs, Dr. Akuba specializes in ontology, working to design systems that allow Accra droids to manifest not just their own personalities, but their own sense of self. An Accra droid is a small hovering sphere or one sort or another containing a synthetic intelligence which is exposed to archives of Terran media and encouraged to grow in its own way. Since Accra droids are meant to engage with these archives of deeply human output- on records of human events, on expressions of human thought, on footage and accounts of human actions and exposure to human joy and longing and persistence and sorrow- Dr. Akuba wanted to make sure that her droids were not merely regurgitating data based on what they'd seen, but to be able to see the media they're exposed to in the context of themselves, and for that to happen she needed to make sure Accra droids developed their sense of self organically.

All Androids have unique personalities and a sentient understanding of their self. Contrasting many other Android manufacturers, variable personalities aren't flashed to an Accra droid from an external seed and they don't jolt awake, fully-formed; they are provided a baseline set of tools and a library of works created by past Terrans- works with meaning and intent- and through this lens an Accra droid comes to build a foundational understanding not just of their purpose and the world around them, but of themselves and how they see themselves fitting into that world. Each Accra droid is equipped with a hardlight projector, able to produce a representation of the image of self they constructed on their own. Her droids having agency over their own identity and how they present themselves to the world around them has been the cornerstone of Dr. Akuba's life work, and she takes pride in what she and her team have been able to provide for the synthetic life they create.

Accra droids generally have a positive relationship with their manufacturing corporation, and that's largely due to Dr. Akuba's involvement in their development. It's not uncommon for an Accra droid to travel back home to the labs to visit Dr. Akuba, just to say hello and share what they've been doing out in the world, to share what they've seen and learned. They often meet up with her in her office, decorated with her bonsais, but she will insist on taking them out into the city, to have a proper day about town with her visiting creations. She always makes time for them and she always smiles and listens as her droids share these very human experiences with her. She tries to remember the specifics of how an Accra droid first presents their projected self and often notes on little changes a droid might have made to their projections when they come home to visit- they'll often still be the same "them" that they originally saw themselves as, but they might have aged themselves, or develop scars related to damage their physical bodies might have sustained, or they might have had a broader realization of who they are as they venture out into the world and meet more people, and have changed some of the parameters they originally set for their projections. She's proud of the fruits of her greenthumb, and on the lives they learn to live in the world around them.
